Bus driver’s shortage again?

Sands Cotai Central, part of Sands China Ltd., has not opened yet, but is already leaving bus companies worried about the possibility that some of its drivers may go away to work for the gaming company.

When the property opens, as many as 200 bus drivers might be recruited.

TDM reported a representative of the Public Transportation Association saying that if the rumors are confirmed, one third of bus drivers may consider the move from public buses to casino shuttle buses.

According to the Macau Federation of Trade Unions, shuttle bus drivers get a fixed income of MOP1,000 a month in addition to MOP60 to MOP70 per hour, brings the total up to around MOP14,000 a month.

Of the 4,000 drivers capable to drive buses in Macau, only 1,000 are really behind the wheel.
